The Jack’s Lake Association has been a proactive lake association since 1950!
When you join the JLA for just $50 annually, you are supporting many JLA-led and supported initiatives, activities and advocacy efforts including, but not limited to the following:
- The very popular and informative Smoke Signals magazine mailed to your home annually.
- Maintaining buoys marking underwater hazards and beacons in the main channels. (Thank you Glen Painter and volunteers!)
- The ever-ready serviced fire pumps. (Thank you Peter Lomax and volunteers!)
- The annual Jack's Lake and Bob Izumi’s Kids & Cops Fishing Derby, sponsored by the JLA and many local businesses and organizations.
- The Kids Ice Cream Social where little lakers play games, enjoy ice cream and meet new and old friends.
- Jack Lake Music Fest.
- The environmental projects like a Wetlands Assessment and a Benthic (bug) Study are financed by the JLA to monitor and protect water quality.
- JLA is a paid and involved member of the Coalition for Equitable Waterflow for reservoir lakes in the Haliburton and Kawartha Lakes area. We work with government agencies to maintain appropriate water levels throughout the season.
- The challenge by the JLA to planned logging around the lake has achieved better protection from the visual and environmental effects.
- The advocacy for waterfront property owners with all three levels of government when we need a collective voice.
- JLA keeps current with the issues facing other lake associations through its paid membership in the Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations (FOCA), and North Kawartha Lakes' Association (NORKLA) and the umbrella organizations of lake associations in North Kawartha and Havelock Belmont Methuen.
- JLA Connects emails sent to members to share timely and useful information.
