JLA Buoy Removal

Attention boating Jack Lakers - this is the weekend when our fabulous team of buoy-removing volunteers will be removing JLA buoys around the lake. Jack’s Lake Association Board of Director Positions - 2023

Important characteristics of a JLA Director are the desire to represent the interests and concerns of all JLA members, and simultaneously appreciate that Board solidarity is key to a well-functioning Board. Ultimately, this means that you enjoy being a team player, are willing to roll up your sleeves, be thoughtful and considerate when articulating your position at Board meetings and magnanimously "agree to disagree." All Directors must comply with JLA’s Code of Ethics, prepare periodic submissions for JLA publications as needed, and, when appropriate, assist with the recruitment of future directors, committee members and volunteers. Election to the Board of Directors is for a 3-year term. Five current Directors' terms will expire next year, in October...Announcements

The Sailing and Windsurfer Races and the Anna Sweeney Decorated Boat Parade will be held Saturday August 5th and the remaining Regatta events will be held Sunday August 6th. Hello Lakers,At our next and final webinar of the season (Thursday, June 22, 6:30-8:00pm), we are very lucky to have Dr. Peter Quinby join us to discuss and answer your questions about forest landscape conservation including assessment and protection of old-growth forests.
Dr. Quinby is the founding executive director of Ancient Forest Exploration & Research. Since 2004, he has been its Chief Scientist and Chair of its Board of Directors. He has studied landscape ecology and conservation since 1980.

Please note that there is now a total fire ban currently in place within BOTH the Township of North Kawartha and the Township ofHavelock-Belmont-Methuen due to extremely dry conditions. The risk of fire is very serious.Absolutely no fireworks or open-air burning (including campfires) is permitted. Both townships will release notice when their fire bandshave been lifted. EXCITING UPDATE! We are pleased to share that the large fallen tree blocking the Narrows was safely and successfully removed on Saturday just in time for the yearly Spring snow melt!We would like to share a very special note of thanks to arborist Ryan Gronke for his very generous offer to remove the tree - Ryan donated his expertise, his time and his gasoline as a community service to the lake and we couldn’t be more thankful. THANK YOU, RYAN!
A big thank you also to Graydon Card, Bill Clouson and the Johnston family for their heavy lifting and helping to coordinate the removal and also to all of you who helped us quickly share the hazard notice with your connections and were willing to assist with removal if necessary.
